Abstract
This paper reports the comparative investigation on structural and optical modifications of Y2O3:Dy3+ phosphor after 150Â MeV Ni7+ and 120Â MeV Ag9+ swift heavy ions irradiation in the fluence range 1Ã1011-1Ã1013Â ions/cm2. XRD and TEM studies confirm the loss of crystallinity of ion irradiated phosphors. Diffuse reflectance spectrum shows a blue shift in the absorption band resulting in an increase in band gap after ion irradiation. An increase in the intensity of photoluminescence peaks without any shift in the peak positions was observed with ion fluence. The color coordinates of ion irradiated phosphors approach the white light region with the increase of ion fluence.
