Abstract
This paper analyses the orientation characteristics of the monoclinic variants inherited in the cubic-tetragonal-monoclinic transformation encountered in the elaboration of zirconia materials through the fusion-solidification process. The possibility of calculating the orientation of the parent cubic crystal from at least two monoclinic variants is also described. Finally this procedure is applied to reconstruct the parent cubic orientation map from the electron backscattered diffraction map of a monoclinic zirconia.
