Abstract
A (Ti,Al)N coating which showed excellent adhesion to a stainless steel substrate is investigated using electron energy loss spectroscopy in an analytical electron microscope. Two interface layers are observed and identified as TiNx and â¼Ti3Al7. The presence of these layers can account for the excellent adhesion.
