Abstract
The paper deals with the microstructure and texture development during hydrostatic extrusion of magnesium alloy AZ31. The microstructure and crystallographic texture is determined and discussed from the non-deformed cast part using the remaining billet after extrusion towards the extruded profile. In addition the influence of the process parameters used, such as the extrusion temperature in the range 225-300 °C as well as the different cooling conditions after extrusion, is discussed. Both aspects allow a correlation between microstructure and mechanical properties.
