Abstract
Highly textured alumina ceramics have been fabricated by an alginate-based, aqueous gel-casting process. It has been shown that the fine-grained α-alumina matrix can be transformed into a single-phase and highly c-axis textured alumina by gel-casting with the addition of a small amount of alumina platelets, with the strongest texture derived from 9.1 vol.% of the seed platelets in the gelled precursor tape.
