Abstract
The alloy 5083 was welded by friction stir welding and inert-gas metal-arc welding (MIG-pulse). The fatigue life of friction stir welds is 9-12 times longer than that of MIG-pulse welds under RÂ =Â 0.1 and the fatigue characteristic values of each welds have been increased from 39.8Â MPa for MIG to 67.3Â MPa for FSW.
