Abstract
Tribological behavior of diamond-like carbon (DLC) is believed to be controlled by an interfacial transfer layer of low shear strength, formed by a friction-induced transformation of the top layer of the DLC film. Nanoscale friction, adhesion, durability and wear studies indicating such a phase transformation in DLC films are discussed.
