Abstract
We study the electronic properties and elastic stability criteria of AlAs under hydrostatic pressure by the pseudopotential method combined with the Harrison bond-orbital model for determining the elastic constants. The numerically calculated masses and elastic constants are in good agreement with the available experimental data. Computed electronic properties depend non-linearly on the lattice constant. The generalized stability criteria show the material of interest to be mechanically stable at pressures up to 120Â kbar.
