Abstract
▶ This article presents the high strain-rate flow behavior of Ti-6Al-4V alloy from low cost dynamic indentation (DI) experiments. ▶ The dynamic hardness increased with average strain up to a critical strain and decreased thereafter due to localization of plastic deformation underneath the impacting ball. ▶ The dynamic flow stress for Ti-6Al-4V alloy is 2.5 times the uniaxial compressive flow stress indicating the effect of strain-rate. ▶ The increase in lip height with average strain in DI tests is rapid when compared to static indentation indicating the effect of strain-rate.
