Abstract
▶ The pore structure of freeze casting porous Si3N4 ceramics were strongly affected by the solid content of the slurries. ▶ The increased solid content would decrease the pore size and change the pore structure from the aligned channels with dendrites to the individual round pores. ▶ The formation of individual round pores inhibit the α → β-Si3N4 phase transformation, but was beneficial to the mechanical properties.
