Abstract
â¶ Hot extrusion and heat treatments can affect significantly the microstructure and texture of the as-cast Mg-10Gd-3Y alloy. â¶ The dominant strengthening mechanism for the as-extruded alloy is grain boundary strengthening induced by grain refinement and texture strengthening induced by extrusion. â¶ The main contribution to the mechanical properties of aging-treated as-extruded alloys is precipitation strengthening. â¶ The Mg-10Gd-3Y alloys under different conditions exhibit different tensile fracture mechanism.
