Abstract
ⶠIn situ TiC particle reinforced titanium matrix composites (TMCs) were successfully fabricated by reactive sintering of Ti + Mo2C and Ti + VC compacts. ⶠThe main strengthening mechanisms of the composites are solid solution, grain refinement and particulate strengthening. ⶠThe mechanical properties of the TMCs are greatly influenced by the distribution of TiC particles at ambient temperature. ⶠThe volume percent of TiC particles is the major factor for the strengthening of TMCs at elevated temperatures.
