Abstract
PbO-Sb2O3-As2O3 glasses containing different concentrations of V2O5 (ranging from 0 to 0.5 mol%) were prepared. A number of studies, viz. optical absorption, IR spectra, thermoluminescence, ESR spectra and magnetic susceptibility on these glasses were carried out as a function of vanadium ion concentration. An anomaly has been observed in all the properties of these glasses when V2O5 concentration is about 0.3 mol%. The results of these studies were analyzed in the light of different oxidation states of vanadium ions.
