Abstract
► Temperature distribution the partially coated piston is a function of coating thickness. ► Normal stress which may cause spalling varies with the coating thickness. ► Shear stress which may lead to lateral cracks increases with the coating thickness. ► Optimum coating thickness value is slightly below 1 mm with respect to minimum stress.
