► Effects of pulse frequency variation with constant flux or intensity are opposite. ► Island density increases with decreasing pulse frequency for constant average flux. ► Increase of pulse length for given pulse frequency decreases island density. ► Long-range interactions increase island density due to large cross section. ► Change of single atom activation energy moves plateaus on temperature scale.
