► Polyacrylamide (PAM) adsorption effect on Al2O3 suspension stability was studied. ► Solution pH influences alumina stability in presence of ionic PAM. ► Conformation of adsorbed polymer chains changes with increasing pH. ► PAM causes the greatest destabilization of alumina particles at pH 6.
