Abstract
⺠The use of PDMS thin films as liquid crystal alignment layers is studied. ⺠The surface free energies of PDMS films are very low and thermally stable. ⺠PDMS support vertical liquid crystal alignment in a wide temperature range. ⺠PDMS aligned liquid crystals operate very well in in-plane-switch mode.
