Abstract
A stepped pole broad-range magnetic analyzer has been used to measure the charge-state distributions of accelerated 48Ca ions at the two incident energies 242.8Â MeV and 264.5Â MeV after passing through thin carbon or gold target foils. The measured charge-state distributions and the mean equilibrium charge of the 48Ca ions are compared with calculations using various empirical formulae.
