Abstract
► We have determined the characteristic features of ion-photon emission from yttrium-iron garnets. ► The most intense lines are emitted by slow (∼10 eV) iron atoms excited in specific states. ► The quantum yield of iron atom lines from garnets depends on the content of additives. ► It is suggested that excited atoms are formed during decay of MemOn complexes ejected from the solids.
