Abstract
In grind hardening, the heat dissipated in the cutting area during grinding is used for the heat treatment of the workpiece. Analytical and numerical techniques have been employed to understand the grind-hardening mechanisms as well as the working conditions during the process. Parameters considered include workpiece speed and depth of cut at a constant cutting speed. The hardness penetration depth has been calculated, for a given set of process parameters, and compared with experimental data from a cylindrical dry grindhardening process.
