Abstract
After outlining briefly the type of analysis used in this note-i.e. the semiotics inspired from the linguist Hjelmslev-the description according to four levels of significance of the photo taken-and set up-by Bob Martin underlines its strong ambiguity. The third level of analysis of the double truncated body isolated within a frame that is itself fractionated particularly reveals the artificial way in which the scene is set. Finally, it leads to the interpretation that this photo stands between a stigmatisation-which dominates from our point of view-and a valorisation of the amputated body.
