Abstract
► We exposed carbonaceous siltstone to atmospheric entry in an artificial meteorite experiment. ► The siltstone preserved biomarkers despite exposure to 1775 °C. ► Raman and biomarker data show a thermal gradient to the exposed surface. ► Meteorites could preserve evidence of biology on the parent body.
