Correlating multispectral imaging and compositional data from the Mars Exploration Rovers and implications for Mars Science Laboratory

► We investigated correlations between MER Pancam, APXS, and Mossbauer datasets. ► Most partial correlations were weak, but some were statistically significant. ► Targets in different APXS classes can have identical Pancam spectra. ► k-Means clustering identified geologically meaningful groups in Meridiani data. ► Clustering and classification methods can be used to formalize class definition.
