Abstract
► Spectral, morphological and thermal analysis of layered deposits: Iani Chaos, Mars. ► Detection of hydrated sulphates, including gypsum, kieserite and jarosite. ► Strata at different elevations show different bulk hydration states. ► Deposits probably share common formation mechanism, but isolated local conditions. ► Formation by water-influenced planar deposition then extensive aeolian deflation.
