Abstract
In the frame work of kinetic equation approach, we studied the temporal behaviour of non-thermal blazar emission when the basic particle acceleration mechanism is independent as well as dependant of the particle energy. Considering the quiescent state spectrum Mrk 421 as a test case, it is shown that the observed steady state spectrum can be described equally well in both the scenarios of particle acceleration although the basic spectral evolutions are different. The flare characteristics are studied when particle acceleration time scale is energy independent as well as energy dependant and it is shown that the flare pattern at different energy bands strongly depends on the particle acceleration process in the blazar jet.
