Abstract
⺠Our thermal model predicts temperatures throughout rock and bit during drilling. ⺠2 experimental tests run at Mars pressure in Indiana limestone. ⺠Thermal model is necessary for planning rover sampling operations on Mars. ⺠Without model, bit may freeze in borehole and content of samples may be altered. ⺠Specific features of bit geometry contribute to cuttings and heat removal rate.
