Abstract
► We examine the behavior of Venus' nightside ionosphere in very tenuous solar wind. ► The nightside ionosphere is dominated by O+ with speed less than escape velocity. ► The nightside ionosphere is highly extended tailward. ► The global configuration of ionosphere resembles teardrop-shaped cometary ionosphere.
