Abstract
âºPlate tectonics is difficult to produce from mantle convection. ⺠A weaker lithosphere can be more easily mobilized permitting lithosphere recycling. ⺠Giant impacts could fracture and weaken the lithosphere in the Earth. ⺠Giant impacts effect would be lesser for Mars, which is a one-plate planet.
