Abstract
This paper reports numerical investigation of multicrystalline silicon (mc-Si) ingot production using an industrial-scale directional solidification furnace capable of producing 500Â kg silicon ingot. Specific examination is made on thermal distribution, interface shape and velocity field. Evaluation is performed for the applicability of thermal system design to reduce carbon and oxygen impurity, improve crystal quality and enhance energy efficiency. The effects of gas flow, heater position and geometric configuration on temperature distribution are discussed as well to provide the essential knowledge for system optimization.
