Abstract
Acenaphthene single crystals (with a diameter of 15 mm and length of 28 mm) were grown by Vertical Bridgman technique using double wall ampoules, at a growth rate of 1.5 mm/day. Powder X-ray diffraction studies were carried out to determine the lattice parameters for the grown crystals. The micro-Raman studies have been performed to identify the various vibrational group frequencies present in the crystal. The grown crystals were subjected to Vickers microhardness, etching and UV-vis. spectral studies. The crystals grown were tested for their performance as scintillators by the timing resolution setup using 60Co with 511 keV γ-ray source.
