Abstract
► Oxygen vacancy forms more easily in the Ce4O8 cluster than in the ceria surfaces. ► CO forms CO32−-like species or is oxidized to CO2 directly on the Ce4O8 cluster. ► The ceria clusters are highly active and can serve as a good catalyst for CO oxidation.
