Abstract
⺠We explore the role of gravitational sinking in driving plankton cell size selection. ⺠We introduce a general size-dependent sinking term in a simplified ecosystem model. ⺠We explore how different sinking regimes affect plankton dynamics. ⺠Plankton competition depends on cell size and on settling rate temporal variability.
