Abstract
This paper describes the fundamentals of a technique that enables the assessment of the uranium and thorium dose-rate component from fission tracks induced by neutrons. Apart from analysing elemental contents as low as 10-9 g/g, the microscopic distribution of the alpha and beta dose-rates within petrologic sections can be spatially resolved down to 20μm.
