Abstract
Making use of symbolic computation and the generalized Riccati equation expansion method, some exact non-travelling wave solutions for a generalized variable coefficients two-dimensional KdV equation are obtained. By means of some suitable selections of the arbitrary functions including in the obtained solutions, the results obtained by Elwakil et al. [see: Chaos, Solitons & Fractals 19 (2004) 1083] can be recovered. From our results, some exact solutions for the cylindrical Kadomatsev-Petviashvilli equation can be also derived.
