Abstract
⺠Mechanical systems with dry friction are modelled as discontinuous systems. ⺠Dry friction introduces the existence of equilibrium sets. ⺠Equilibrium sets are intervals in the phase space. ⺠Local bifurcations only occur near the endpoints of these sets. ⺠Conditions for structural stability are given and new bifurcations are observed.
