Abstract
⺠A general system of forced coupled oscillators can be reduced to a system of scalar phase equations. ⺠Forcing at twice the intrinsic oscillation frequency yields an antiphase solution. ⺠The antiphase state is stable for coupling below a threshold, calculated under certain conditions. ⺠Above-threshold coupling gives traveling waves in which all elements adopt the same phase. ⺠In the continuum limit all coupling strengths give traveling waves, with speed that we can estimate.
