Abstract
In this paper we present a multi-dimensional scheme for solving the elastic-plastic wave equation that is based on a so-called residual splitting approach. The basic idea of this methodology is to solve the analytic time-derivative of a PDE rather than the PDE itself and then integrate the solution in time numerically. We illustrate the advantages of such an approach with theoretic arguments and practical examples.
