Abstract
⺠Glutathione peroxidase 1/2 double-KO mice are strain-dependently prone to ileocolitis. ⺠129 strain mice have higher lactoperoxidase (Lpo) gene expression than B6 in colon epithelium. ⺠Lpo DNA is more methylated in 129 than B6, DKO than WT, and mature than young mice. ⺠Lpo DNA methylation does not result from inflammation nor lead to gene expression. ⺠Only the full-length variant of colon Lpo mRNA produces an active enzyme.
