Abstract
► NOX1 was significantly up-regulated in the heart of septic animal models. ► Nox1 deficiency improved cardiac dysfunction and survival in septic mice. ► Nox1 deficiency reduced cardiomyocyte apoptosis in septic mice. ► Decreased level of phosphorylated Akt in septic heart was blunted by Nox1 deficiency. ► NOX1 enhances endotoxin-induced cardiomyocyte apoptosis by regulating Akt signaling.
