Abstract
The clinical course of meningococcal disease represents a diagnostic challenge because early symptoms are often nonspecific and overlap with those of other common infections before rapidly progressing to a life-threatening condition. Clinicians need to prioritize vaccination of preadolescent, adolescent, and other patients who are at risk of meningococcal disease, using a quadrivalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine at the soonest opportunity.
