Partnerships for community resilience: perspectives from the Los Angeles County Community Disaster Resilience project

•We describe partnership activities conducted by a large US local health department.•The health department has existing partnerships with diverse community sectors.•Partnerships with the health care sector were most prevalent.•The leading partnership barrier was lack of training on engaging community partners.•Existing partnerships can be leveraged and strengthened to build community resilience.
