Abstract
► Sphingomyelinase D in sicariid spider venom is a potent insecticidal toxin. ► Symptoms of sphingomyelase D intoxication in crickets are consistent with neurotoxic activity. ► Potency of crude venoms of Loxosceles arizonica on crickets is comparable to the most potent spider venoms. ► Potency of sphingomyelinase D on crickets is comparable to that of known peptide neurotoxins such as μ-agatoxin-Aa1a.
