Abstract
⺠Little is known about the neurotoxicity of Australian copperhead snake venoms. ⺠All Austrelaps venoms were found to exhibit postsynaptic neurotoxic activity. ⺠All Austrelaps venoms also contained presynaptic PLA2 neurotoxin (SPAN) complexes. ⺠Antivenom was not effective in reversing toxicity from venom or SPAN complexes. ⺠Early antivenom usage is vital to prevent irreversible presynaptic neurotoxicity.
