Abstract
⺠The annual number of new cancer cases is projected to rise by 70% worldwide by 2030. ⺠Improvements in treatment will not be adequate to combat this impending tragedy. ⺠Cancer prevention is therefore a vital component of cancer control. ⺠At least 50% of cancers could be prevented with current knowledge. ⺠Interdisciplinary research will help identify new risk factors and evaluate interventions.
