Abstract
- Urethral interstitial cells of Cajal (ICC) fire spontaneous Ca2+ waves.
- Ca2+ waves in ICC are abolished by H-89, a protein kinase A (PKA) inhibitor.
- Abolition of Ca2+ waves is associated with a decreased ER Ca2+ load.
- In H-89, Ca2+ waves are rescued by a RyR agonist but not an IP3R agonist.
- H-89 appears to inhibit Ca2+ waves by decreasing the ER load leading to lower IP3R sensitivity.
