Abstract
► Epithelial morphogenesis depends on changes in the relative sizes of cortical domains. ► Apical-basal polarity is needed to target actomyosin contractility to one side of the cell. ► Modifications in apical-basal polarity proteins can drive cell shape changes. ► Some polarity proteins become planar polarised during morphogenetic movements. ► In turn, these contribute to the planar regulation of actomyosin contractility.
