► Wnt3a, Msgn1 and Tbx6 mutants are characterized by the absence of paraxial mesoderm. ► Wnt3a, Msgn1 and Tbx6 are critical for paraxial mesoderm lineage commitment and differentiation in mice. ► Paraxial mesoderm progenitors are bipotential and can adopt a neural or mesodermal fate.
