► SMAD4 is required to generate only a subset of cerebellar neurons. ► Without SMAD4, glutamatergic DCN neurons, UBCs, and late GCPs are not produced. ► SMAD4 maintains the functional integrity of the rhombic lip. ► Postnatally, SMAD4 is required to correctly localize granule neurons.
