Abstract
⺠We provide the first detailed modern description of embryo development in a centipede. ⺠The species used, Strigamia maritima is the first myriapod to have a sequenced genome. ⺠This paper provides a standard reference for staging and a timeline for development. ⺠We show that cleavage is extremely prolonged, taking almost half of embryogenesis. ⺠We identify four phases of segment addition extending until just before hatching.
