Abstract
► EGFR receptor signaling in insects is regulated, to a large extent, by processing of the ligands. ► Variations in intracellular localization of the proteases cleaving the ligands were identified. ► These variations impinge on the amount of secreted ligand, as well as on the polarity of secretion. ► The processing cassette was examined in different insect species. ► It traces the elaboration of this pathway, and diversification of its regulation.
